Mill Roll

Cast Iron Roll 丨Cast Steel Roll丨Adamite Roll丨HSS Roll

Roll Material Selection: Typical Applications

• Adamite rolls: Widely used in hot strip mills and bar mills for roughing and intermediate stands. Good thermal resistance and thermal crack resistance at elevated temperatures. Suitable for carbon steel and low-alloy grades.
• High-chromium cast iron rolls: Common in hot rolling finishing stands and cold rolling applications. Superior surface finish and wear resistance. Preferred for product grades requiring good strip surface quality.
• High-speed steel (HSS) rolls: Used in finishing stands of hot rolling and cold rolling where high surface finish quality and extended roll life are required. Higher material cost but better performance in demanding rolling conditions.

Roll selection depends on: rolling stage (roughing/intermediate/finishing), material being processed, required surface quality, and production volume targets.

As a rolling mill roll manufacturer, Tinvo matches each mill stand position — roughing, intermediate, finishing — to a specific roll grade. Adamite and high-chromium cast iron dominate roughing and intermediate stands where mill uptime and thermal shock resistance dominate. High-speed steel (HSS) and HSS roll rings hold the finishing stand, where surface finish and dimensional accuracy drive cost-per-tonne. The right combination of backup, work, and intermediate rolls extends the rolling campaign and lowers the cost-per-tonne of rolled product.
