Precision single helical gear for industrial gearbox transmission

Single Helical Gear (Single Oblique Tooth Gear)

Compared to standard spur gears, single helical gears are designed for applications that require higher speeds and smoother operation. The inclined teeth engage more gradually, ensuring a continuous and progressive contact that significantly reduces noise and vibration in your drive system.

Introduction

  • Enhanced Load Capacity: The angled tooth design creates a larger contact area, allowing our helical gears to transmit higher torque and withstand greater shock loads than equivalent-sized spur gears.

  • Superior Noise Reduction: The gradual engagement of teeth eliminates the “clattering” common in straight-cut gears, making them the preferred choice for high-speed gearboxes and industrial machinery where quiet operation is critical.

  • Precision CNC Manufacturing: TINVO utilizes advanced CNC gear hobbing and grinding equipment to achieve high accuracy grades (DIN 6 or AGMA 11+). This precision ensures minimal backlash and optimal transmission efficiency.

  • Durable Materials & Heat Treatment: We use premium alloy steels such as 42CrMo, 20CrMnTi, and 18CrNiMo7-6. To maximize service life, we provide expert heat treatments including Carburizing, Quenching, and Nitriding to achieve the ideal surface hardness and core toughness.

  • Expert Axial Thrust Management: While single helical gears produce axial thrust, our engineering team can provide guidance on optimal bearing arrangements (such as tapered roller bearings) to ensure your system handles these loads reliably.

Difference Between Helical Gear and Single Helical Gear(Single Oblique Tooth Gear)

  • Definition range: Helical gear is a broader concept, and single helical gear is a special type of helical gear.

  • Tooth shape: The teeth of single helical gears are straight lines inclined to the axis of the gear; while the teeth of helical gears can be various shapes, in addition to straight lines, there may also be other specific helical shapes.

  • Application scenarios: Although both can realize specific transmission functions in many cases, in some occasions with special requirements for transmission accuracy, noise, and bearing capacity, their applicability may be different.

  • Manufacturing difficulty: Generally speaking, the manufacturing of helical gears may be relatively more complicated, especially for some helical gears with special shapes.

For example, in some large mechanical transmission systems, helical gears or specific types of single helical gears may be selected according to specific needs to achieve the best transmission effect; in some high-precision instrument and equipment, the selection of gears will also be more refined to meet its strict working requirements.

FAQ

Q1. When should a steel mill specify a single helical gear instead of a herringbone gear? A1. A single helical gear produces axial thrust, so the drive train must include a thrust-bearing arrangement — typically tapered roller bearings. A herringbone (double helical) gear cancels that thrust inside the gear itself. Choose single helical where the gearbox can carry the thrust load and you want the simpler gear; choose herringbone where axial thrust must be eliminated at the gear.

Q2. What is the largest single helical gear TINVO can manufacture? A2. From our published parameters: maximum diameter 4M and maximum module 55, with tooth-surface accuracy to Level 5. Tell us the finished size and module early in the RFQ so we can confirm the cut before quoting.

Q3. What accuracy grade and tooth-surface quality can TINVO hold? A3. DIN 6 / AGMA 11+ accuracy via precision CNC gear hobbing and grinding, with tooth-surface accuracy reported at Level 5. Higher precision classes are available on inquiry.

Q4. Which alloy steel and heat treatment should I specify for a single helical gear? A4. We machine 42CrMo, 20CrMnTi, and 18CrNiMo7-6, with Carburizing, Quenching, or Nitriding for surface hardness and core toughness. The right combination depends on your duty cycle — send torque, speed, and duty in the RFQ and we reply with a recommended grade and treatment.

Q5. What data should a single helical gear RFQ include? A5. Drawing, module, helix angle (we cut 8–25°), material / chemical composition, required hardness, physical properties, plus the gearbox duty cycle and shaft speed. With these we return a grade and heat-treatment recommendation.

Parameters:

  • Maximum diameter: 4M
  • Maximum modulus: 55
  • Tooth surface accuracy: Level 5

Customization

Single helical gears and helical gears are the standard intermediate choice in industrial gearboxes when spur gears are ruled out by noise or torque limits. Single helical, helical, and herringbone gears differ fundamentally in load characteristics, axial-thrust tolerance, and lubrication method. Single helical gears develop moderate axial thrust — the design needs a matching tapered-roller thrust-bearing arrangement. TINVO supplies single helical gears custom-made to drawing + module + heat-treatment grade; share the gearbox duty cycle and shaft speed in your RFQ and we reply with a recommended grade.
